Alliance Promotes New HSE Concepts and Responsibilities in 2018 Annual HSE Seminar
In March 2018, Alliance Construction Materials Limited (“Alliance”) organized the Annual HSE Seminar to promote new HSE (Health, Safety, Environment)concepts and responsibilities, as well as recognizing outstanding HSE performance of Alliance teams. Every year, the HSE Seminar brings together employees from different operational and functional departments for a day of insightful sharing, reflection and encouragement.
Now in its 14th year, HSE seminar this year featured key note speeches, film screening, case studies and conversations on present and future challenges of HSE and sustainability. Around 100 participants joined the event held at the Business Environment Council (BEC) Auditorium in Kowloon Tong. The seminar provided an excellent opportunity for its employees to share HSE experience, learn new concepts and practices in the field. In recognition of Alliance teams’ outstanding efforts on HSE, different awards were presented in the event, such as “Best Housekeeping Award”, “2017 HSE Leadership Award” and “Best HSE Performance Award”.
Themes of the HSE seminar this year included “Safety Leadership”, “Clean Site is a Safe Site” and “Plastic Ocean”. “Safety Leadership” focused on being a safety leader and inspiring others to be the same. It promoted a change of mindset that safety leadership was not just about management, every employee has a vital role in safety leadership. Good practices from HeidelbergCement’s operation in Australia were also shared during the seminar. “Clean Site is a Safe Site” embraced the principals of 5S, it emphasized maintaining a clean site was the key to avoid safety risks. For “Plastic Ocean”, a documentary on the same theme was showed to reveal the causes and consequences of plastic pollution. Positive feedback was received from the participants, who found the seminar topics useful and informative. They were especially impressed by the Plastic Ocean film, which was a good reminder to review our plastic usage in daily life.
Mr. Vincent Yu, CEO of Alliance, stated during the opening remark, “Building a harm free workplace is our long term goal. When we all choose to be a safety leader, we are in control of our career, personal life and fate, and help to protect that of your colleagues. We should always remind each other of our own safety blind spots, take the most correct and safest actions based on training and experience. I am happy to see that Alliance people are all willing to continuously improve themselves and change to achieve safety and performance goals.”
